The Blackberry Presenter – Powerpoint Presentations

Written by SyncMaster on January 6, 2010 – 1:11 pm -

On Wednesday, January 6th 2010 – RIM released a new device that really changes2010-01-04_144509_610x345 the name of the game! A Wireless presentation device allowing you to do power point presentations with no laptop.

Given the native resolution of a Blackberry Bold 9000 or Bold 9700, this method of presenting would be best for text Power Points and non high resolution, non technical presentations only, but regardless it’s really cool. Makes you wonder if it would also work to play DIVX movies from your blackberry to  your TV Set.

Kind of disappointed this device didn’t come with HDMI though, that would make it truly a game changer and something totally useful in a mountain of situations.

Freeze mode is really neat. You can actually pause the powerpoint on the screen while browsing the presentation on your smartphone so you can digg thru and find what’s coming next then flow back all while the audience still sees the screen you were last on. Pretty awesome!

10 Meters of walk around space while still controlling the presentation, Impressive. I’m sure more news will surface and more strategy around  how it works as it slowly gets mentioned around the web.

Technical Details:

Video Formats:
NTSC/PAL

Power Connection:
USB

Video Formats:
VGA, S-VIDEO

Languages Supported:
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish

Display Resolutions:
640×480, 800×600, 1024×768

Bluetooth:
Version 2.o + EDR, Class 1.5

They might want to  add native Indian languages, as Blackberry devices are beginning to get a huge following in that country too.

Written by admin on January 5, 2010 – 10:55 am -

Yblackberry-coveryou may have noticed the free report on the right hand side of the screen here.  This report is free to all who receive the newsletter… Once you sign up, you’ll be asked to confirm your email address, after which you’ll receive the report in an email.

Don’t feel obligated though, you can just as easily un-subscribe if you wished. However, since we only send newsletters once per month, you’d probably find it hard to come up with a good excuse to unsubscribe.

What are the 7 secrets we cover in the book?

#1. How to escape your contract
#2. How to track down your phone if it’s stolen
#3. How to borrow internet from your cell phone (tether) your Blackberry
#4. The Flashlight application, why buy it?
#5. VOIP on your Blackberry, making cheaper calls (Skype)
#6. Backing up and restoring 3rd party applications & programs
#7. Secret Codes – how to find hidden areas of your Blackberry.

Now, to the experts out there… I know these aren’t all crazy secrets… But to the average user they can be.  I hope at least one part of the report gives you something you didn’t have already, and if it does, then it was worth the free signup – even if you decide to unsubscribe.

What Type Of Blackberry User Are You?

Written by admin on December 31, 2009 – 4:15 pm -

Read this for a good laugh, pass it on to friends! –> The facebook and twitter buttons on the right there will send someone only this page, not the whole blog.

A Socialite?

1165513_mannequin_girls

You admit it! You’ve text messaged someone and emailed while driving. You’re always on your blackberry… Thewhole reason you bought your blackberry can be summed up with Text Message & Facebook, but the email feature and phone feature are kinda nice too. There’s things you just can’t talk about on the phone that are easily discussed via text message or email. You’ve planned an entire week via text message and everyone knows that calling is pointless… Blackberry messenger is your MSN of choice. Yup, you’re the reason textsfromlastnight.com exists!

A News Junkie?

If the world came crashing down tomorrow, you’d know about it before anyone! Yes1245130_newspaper_boy, you must have the info fix… Info snacking comes in 3 main flavors for you… Old Info (Aka books), Newer information (blogs) and instant access to what happened 5 minutes ago! RSS & Twitter… You’re currently subscribed to 30 blogs and always adding new ones and deleting old ones that don’t post at least 5 new postings per day. I think you’d probably face a heart attack if Blackberry data ever went down. The day of the last outage, you realized how slow and repetitive AM News radio is!

A Business User?

1200761_main_street_vs__wall_street

Your email may never get read, you’ve never seen a game on your Blackberry screen… But chills run up your spine if you haven’t checked your stocks. Oh yes, those precious pennies going up and down gives you an adrenaline rush that most drugstores can’t sell without a prescription, aren’t you glad Blackberries have the best trading apps on the market?

You’re addicted to reading about VC’s and Mergers and buzz words like “economy”, your wife probably asks you to stop looking at it when you’re in the movies and gets mad when she realizes you haven’t heard a word she said all day…but Google’s up $3.80! You can quote more than 30 stock symbols for major companies!

Email Junkie873928_junk_mail_2

Yes, the addiction to checking your email every few seconds was so intense, so strong that you opted for BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) over Gmail a few weeks back. You pull your blackberry out of your pocket every few minutes and when you see that red flashing light, you can actually feel your heart jump… It might be clients, friends, or that junk you posted for sale on Craigslist, but either way, you gotta know right now!!!

The stupid thing is, you read spam when you’re bored! Admit it!

My Other Phone’s a Nokia…1080889_cellphone

Some hardcore Blackberry users would call you a sellout! You use your Blackberry for work, but when the whistle blows at 5pm you put that thing away and it’s family time. You’re the guy that Blackberry Addicts despise! I mean, you control the device, you don’t let it control you! You never check your email in the evening, why don’t you respond?! You don’t text either? Your primary cell phone has no options, no QWERTY keyboard or anything! How do you live with yourself? In fact, If you’re reading this and you peg this as your type… You’re probably looking for a fix to something stopping you from work.. Look at your watch! It’s before 5pm, isn’t it! Take that Blackberry home… Watch a movie tonite, reach out and text someone!

Learn about some crazy blackberry secrets, sign up to our newsletter and get better acquainted with your smartphone today!

Handango Offers 25% Off All Blackberry Bold Software for New Years

Written by admin on December 29, 2009 – 9:41 am -

Handango, a popular merchant among smartphone users, is now offering 25% off all purchases between now and December 31st.
Shopping cart code to enter is YEAREND .
icon

There’s quite a bit in their store and they do have their own Mobile App Storeicon that I was going to profile in the distant future… I like their version of the Blackberry Appworld because it has a nice news reader built in. I love news, so the more I can get of that going the better in my eyes. Plus it lets you download from a selection of Blackberry software that very much rivals the real Blackberry appworld.

You can also read reviews of various software titles and screenshots too.. but overall the handango App store is quite a nice little utility and worth playing with. I guess I should stop being lazy and post some pics, i’ll do some screenshots up and update this later at some point. Meanwhile – go get your 25% off, if there was something you were thinking of buying before, now’s the time. Yeah, I know 25% aint much, but they usually don’t offer more than that so a discount is a discount!

RIM Profitable – Research In Motion Billions

Written by admin on December 18, 2009 – 3:25 pm -

blackberry-moneyResearch In Motion filed it’s Q3 Report, showing just how popular and profitable they truly are. Based on the run of media and lack of devices they showed for the Bold 9700 when it first came out, it’s no surprise that they’re doing better than anyone could have imagined… In fact, reports of doing more sales than the iPhone on the Curve models… The curve in my opinion is really more of a college kid phone than a business tool – lacking WIFI and other handy on the road tools.

Interesting note, RIM sold their 75 millionth Blackberry, showing exactly what kind of strength this company really holds!

Revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2010 was $3.92 billion, up 11% from $3.53 billion in the previous quarter and up 41% from $2.78 billion in the same quarter of last year. The revenue breakdown for the quarter was approximately 82% for devices, 14% for service, 2% for software and 2% for other revenue.   During the quarter, RIM shipped approximately 10.1 million devices.

Fact is, we’re the proud owners of devices that are manufactured by a very healthy company with quite a strong future ahead of it!

BlackberryArcade.net Was giving out free games on Youtube…

Written by admin on December 17, 2009 – 2:17 pm -

And, now they’re shut down.

I guess RIM must have sent some kind of cease and desist letter to Jake, who was buying games from RIM themselves (or so he says) and then re-posting videos of him playing the game and telling his viewers he was going to give it to them for free at www.blackberryarcade.net…

I was checking out Bplay’s new Call of Duty, when I went looking for a video of the game on youtube so I could get an idea of the quality of game play and graphics. That’s when I stumbled across Jake’s videos where he says $12 was unfair… So he’s giving it away…

Then I notice blackberryarcade.net is down!

A quick Whois.sc report reveals the site is now in the hands of “Research In Motion Limited” in Ontario. I’m only guessing that means that RIM shut him down!

Silly kid! Downloading games and giving them away and figuring you’ll get away with it… How cheezy.

Crackberry Wallpaper Maker For Blackberries

Written by admin on December 16, 2009 – 11:47 am -

There’s a totally free tool out there on Crackberry that lets you create your own wallpapers really super easy (if you know how to use it).

Did you know this thing existed?

crackberry-wallpaper-tool

This tool sadly, is very frustrating initially, but once you understand how it works (And their instructions are very vague) it’s really a blessing!

Here’s the gyst.. Select a high resolution graphic you want as your wallpaper, upload it and go to the next screen. Here you’re presented with a grey box with your graphic inside it. Check the checkbox below that says “keep aspect ratio” or otherwise the graphic will squish or squeeze to the wrong proportions and look weird.

Then, play with your zoom level to get the right size you’re looking for… And finally, double click in the middle of the graphic and line up the rectangular outline you can see displayed over your picture until it outlines the background you wish to have. Pretty cool eh?

Visit the Tool Here.

Blackberry Bold 9700 Battery Life

Written by SyncMaster on December 15, 2009 – 2:15 pm -

When I first got this thing, it came pre-charged with what appeared to be a full battery. Quickly on the first day, it had me worried when I recieved it at 5pm and it was near dead by 10PM. That night, I gave it a charge for 7 hours (about as much sleep as I ever get!!).

The next day, same thing, lucky to get a full 8 hour day out of it and I wasn’t talking on the phone very much.

On day three, I started hunting the web… Looking for “battery conditioning” and Bold 9700 battery tips and all kinds of junk, thinking I must have got a lemon or maybe didn’t charge it for long enough? I mean how long are you supposed to charge a new blackberry bold 9700 for??

Answer.. From all my research – and I think you’ll be surprised!

The Bold 9700 charges up in around 45 minutes and should last up to 16+ hours after that. So it wasn’t that I hadn’t properly conditioned the battery or anything like that…

* I wasn’t running an animated theme at the time…
* I had Viigo and email and Gmail but not much else auto-updating.
* I didn’t chat long on the phone
* I Didn’t use the camera much – maybe 2 pictures.

But for some strange reason on day 3-5 it started lasting longer and LONGER… Now, I’ve had days where I’ve done multiple conference calls from my car lasting an hour a piece on speakerphone no less and still had 3 out of 5 bars left at 10pm that night… OH and I took videos and texted, and emailed and browsed and and and…

So relax, before you return it, give it 3-5 days.. It may clear up after all.

All the best, Richard
