How does the bold 9700 trackpad work?
Written by SyncMaster on December 18, 2009 – 3:13 pm -Like many users, i’ve found the blackberry bold 9700’s new trackpad to be a blessing and a curse.
Out of the box it seems hyper sensitive, fast and oddly accurate, and yet if you’ve been a baller or a jogger (track wheel or track ball) fan over the years, the quick witted accuracy of the new trackpad is still something to get used to…
Regardless… RIM has gone out of their way to showcase exactly what it is and how it works, and it’s quite interesting and allows for a deeper appreciation of the new navigation tool and how it works.
Much like any improvement to an existing design, many early adopters will find it strange, but the accuracy and design is something to truly brag about when it comes to being a blackberry owner.
Apparently, this is actually an optical camera taking black and white photos of your finger every few seconds. The advantages over a laptop’s touchpad is that it nolonger requires the heat or actual finger, but could even work in a pinch with a ball point pen, which I imagine opens up all kinds of good things for the handicapped and other folks who cannot use their thumb for whatever reason.
The Official Blackberry blog can tell you more and is quite a good read…

Blackberry Bold 9700 Battery Life
Written by SyncMaster on December 15, 2009 – 2:15 pm -When I first got this thing, it came pre-charged with what appeared to be a full battery. Quickly on the first day, it had me worried when I recieved it at 5pm and it was near dead by 10PM. That night, I gave it a charge for 7 hours (about as much sleep as I ever get!!).
The next day, same thing, lucky to get a full 8 hour day out of it and I wasn’t talking on the phone very much.
On day three, I started hunting the web… Looking for “battery conditioning” and Bold 9700 battery tips and all kinds of junk, thinking I must have got a lemon or maybe didn’t charge it for long enough? I mean how long are you supposed to charge a new blackberry bold 9700 for??
Answer.. From all my research – and I think you’ll be surprised!
The Bold 9700 charges up in around 45 minutes and should last up to 16+ hours after that. So it wasn’t that I hadn’t properly conditioned the battery or anything like that…
* I wasn’t running an animated theme at the time…
* I had Viigo and email and Gmail but not much else auto-updating.
* I didn’t chat long on the phone
* I Didn’t use the camera much – maybe 2 pictures.
But for some strange reason on day 3-5 it started lasting longer and LONGER… Now, I’ve had days where I’ve done multiple conference calls from my car lasting an hour a piece on speakerphone no less and still had 3 out of 5 bars left at 10pm that night… OH and I took videos and texted, and emailed and browsed and and and…
So relax, before you return it, give it 3-5 days.. It may clear up after all.
All the best, Richard
