Yes, I admit that I’m one of those guys who’s gone out and found some nice pictures and re-sized them. I didn’t design any of it and if any original author contacts me I will remove, or link to them as preffered. But who can blame a guy for wanting to share some blackberry holiday spirit?

I’ve discovered that switching themes can really lower your blackberry productivity.

It often changes where your default icons usually are and causes quite a few headaches sometimes moreso than its worth for the pretty looks you get out of it.

Yes there are lots of steps you can take to prevent it but maybe have a weekend planned of reorganizing before you install any theme…

Bplay Lets You Upgrade Your Themes

For those of us who spent tons of money (like me) on themes for the Blackberry Bold 9000 last year, there’s hope in bringing those warm, fuzzy memories back to the Bold 9700!!!

After some frustrating emails back and fourth with Bplay, I realized my themes were on an old email address, so I logged in using that one (thank goodness I still remembered the password) and then.. Damn there it said 9000 next to each theme… So I emailed back and fourth some more with Bplay asking if they could give me upgraded versions for the 9700 as they are now selling those in their store…

Then… I just thought aw, what the heck, I’ll try downloading them from my past purchase area on Bplay… boom! there was the option to download the 9700 version with no extra cost! Hope this helps someone else too!

Bold 9700 and Waterfall Theme from Bplay

Well, over the years, I’ve bought tons of themes from Bplay… Some of the ones I’m most fond of are:

• Fireplace
• Snow Globe
• Saltwater

And others…

But this week I bought Waterfall for the Bold 9700 and I have to say i’m really unimpressed. What bothers me the most is that on the home screen when you scroll back and fourth it lags dramatically not giving you the quick response you need to quickly hit up your calendar, contacts etc…

Scrolling thru the menu of all your icons is super fast… so no complaints there…

Also, the animation clearly lags and jerks as it plays which isn’t what they show on their sample page on their site at all!!

If your waiting for juicy animated themes for the Bold 9700, keep waiting I dont’ think they’ve perfected it in OS 5.0 yet. The other thing that was kind of strange was that the default font changes to a Times New Roman kinda look & feel when the original blackberry font was so much easier to read.

I also eagerly await a response from Bplay on it.

Bold 9700 Themes Are Not Clear

Warning for all Bold 9700 users, the theme sites like Handago have not yet updated their sites to reflect which themes will and will not work for your phones.

The big ticket on all sites to watch for is things that say a theme is “OS 5.0 Ready” and very few are going ahead and saying that, with the exception of MobiHand which kindly does list exactly this.

Unfortunately, We’re not seeing any animated themes thus far for the gorgeous 9700, however I can tell that they’re not far away… I’m not sure about Bplay who claims their themes are 9700 compatable, but then spells out that they’re not supported on OS5.0 Devices… Watch out for that.

Some folks are saying that Themes for the 8900 work on the 9700. This isn’t totally true. Themes designed for 8900’s running OS 5.0, probably… So read the fine print.

Themes For Blackberry Bold 9700

Truth is that I could do what I do without my Blackberry 9000 and Now, It’ll be with the Bold 9700 once it arrives on Friday or Monday. Clients would be come angry and
upset if they found out some days I have to run around to banks, programmers, designers and other labor sources to get jobs done and didn’t get their emails answered or
Inquiries dealt with in a timely fashion.

Blackberry 9700 Themes

Yes, they’re not practical and they can slow a device down, but truth is when I see a happy picture on my device thru the day it makes me stay positive.
Apparently the secret is the Bold 9700 will be using the same themes and designs as the Tour 8900 that I yelled & screamed about in a previous article. So if you see any themes out there for that broken feature poor Blackberry 8900 that look appealing… They should be compatable with the Blackberry Bold 9700!
