Share Blackberry Internet With Your Laptop – 50% Off
Written by admin on January 8, 2010 – 4:07 pm -
Probably one of the most useful pieces of software available for the Blackberry Smartphone today is the Tetherberry software… Which this week got re-branded to just “tether” due to it’s arrival in the Blackberry App World store.
There’s all kinds of controversy over this app, because apps similar to it aren’t allowed in the Apple store and I imagine the Droid app store has the same song and dance… Whatever the case may be, it’s on at 50% off from now until January 10th, 2010. You really should take advantage of this… Because $24.98 for a $50 program is a good deal – and it was even too rich for my blood until they announced this…
What’s is “tethering” anyway?
Tethering is where you connect your Blackberry via USB to your laptop and use it’s internet connection. If you get an unlimited internet plan from your cell phone provider – this is essentially free internet wherever there’s a signal. If your provider gives you 1GB per month or similar (..and your probably finding your not using it all anyway) you can tap into that for quick email checks and save paying Starbucks any cash.
This works with any provider.. but some require a different config than others, but this software very much simplifies the whole process. This entire process can work easily with a mac or a PC, with windows 7, windows 98, windows 2000, even a server your troubleshooting somewhere that needs a patch or an update… Just brilliant! It’s your swiss army knife, and $25 could easily save your bacon one day even if you don’t need it today…
Download Blackberry Internet Sharing “tetherberry” today.

ATT & TMobile Go Head To Head on Amazon
Written by sonic on January 8, 2010 – 3:36 pm -What surprises me that ATT & Tmobile are both offering the phone at the current moment for the same price, $49.99. What’s different is that AT&T seem to offer their services at a minimum of $45.00 per month – and Tmobile is offering theirs at $39 unlimited… Tmobile seems to have a simpler easier to understand packages and plans and AT&T is a challenge to read up on to know what your getting with all their provisos and extras.
Keep your eye out on these though, I noticed before the holidays, AT&T was offering theirs up for a buck with signup… but truthfully, what good is a buck of the dataplan sucks?

The Blackberry Presenter – Powerpoint Presentations
Written by SyncMaster on January 6, 2010 – 1:11 pm -On Wednesday, January 6th 2010 – RIM released a new device that really changes
the name of the game! A Wireless presentation device allowing you to do power point presentations with no laptop.
Given the native resolution of a Blackberry Bold 9000 or Bold 9700, this method of presenting would be best for text Power Points and non high resolution, non technical presentations only, but regardless it’s really cool. Makes you wonder if it would also work to play DIVX movies from your blackberry to your TV Set.
Kind of disappointed this device didn’t come with HDMI though, that would make it truly a game changer and something totally useful in a mountain of situations.
Freeze mode is really neat. You can actually pause the powerpoint on the screen while browsing the presentation on your smartphone so you can digg thru and find what’s coming next then flow back all while the audience still sees the screen you were last on. Pretty awesome!
10 Meters of walk around space while still controlling the presentation, Impressive. I’m sure more news will surface and more strategy around how it works as it slowly gets mentioned around the web.
Technical Details:
Video Formats:
NTSC/PAL
Power Connection:
USB
Video Formats:
VGA, S-VIDEO
Languages Supported:
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish
Display Resolutions:
640×480, 800×600, 1024×768
Bluetooth:
Version 2.o + EDR, Class 1.5
They might want to add native Indian languages, as Blackberry devices are beginning to get a huge following in that country too.

What can a Blackberry Bold 9700 do that iPhones can’t?
Written by admin on December 28, 2009 – 1:51 pm -I know people ask this all the time, and while most people don’t really know the answer, or think it’s a cheesy question ASSUMING that iPhones can do EVERYTHING a Blackberry can do (and they’re wrong…) Please, stand by for the ULTIMATE…
10 Things iPhones Can’t Do, But Blackberries CAN!
#1. BRIGHT Flash light using the Camera’s flash left on…
No iPhone users, apps that turn your entire screen white cannot replace a 13 foot light that’s even powerful enough to fix your car in the pitch-black dark! Yes, our flashlight apps just leave the camera flash on indefinitely, but the blackberry camera light is so bright, it could cause eyeball damage and can lead people to safety… It sounds cheesy, but it really does impress people to have a light that bright that doubles as your phone.
#2. Color changing LED lights…
Yes, there’s one little LED light on the phone that usually reminds us our battery is low, or gives us the heart pumping jitters that there’s a new E-mail (Oh, joy!), but it’s actually capable of 7+ different shades of color! This little handy app can cause the LED to go various shades and no… it’s not slightly red green or blue, it’s the full color! Pretty cool that you can control it to a sexy blue color when your girlfriend calls or an annoying red alert when your boss calls.
#3. A Real Keyboard!
Sheah, who cares right? You see those nerds touch typing at high speeds and you see their bubbly keyboard letters bouncing up as they type and wanna join the crowd? Hold up there partner! iPhone users have tested to find an average of 33 WPM (words per minute) typing speeds on their phones. Blackberry phones average 45 to 60 WPM without LOOKING!! Being a physical keyboard with real buttons a Blackberry typist can look around, and even watch TV while pounding out their message… But the human brain just can’t do that on a piece of glass!
#4. Bold 9700s battery lasts longer then an iPhone…
Yes… If you’ve read reports about the new iPhone 3.1 battery problems, you know there’s something up when a Bold 9700 can play music for 39 hours straight and an iPhone… Just can’t! Isn’t this thing made by the same folks who make the iPod? LOL… 39 hours not just playing music, but with Wifi ON, Radio ON, taking emails, calls and SMS for 39 hours!
#5. Removable Memory
Yes, you may never need to if you buy a 32GB card, but Walmart and other stores photo departments don’t yet have iPhone plug jacks on the front of their machines. Want prints? Better have removable media… Now that’s convenient!
#6. Removable Battery
Ok, so you really wanna go mega hours without having to re-charge? How about that trip thru the amazon where you’d still like to use your phone for GPS!? Buy 2 batteries… Can’t do that with an iPhone.. Yes – you can get external battery things that dangle from the bottom, but what fun is that? And how much fun is it when the internal one dies? Don’t imagine it’s fun!
#7. Drop the debate.. Drop the two phones!
Yes, I’ve dropped my blackberry on the concrete floor in my garage while working on the Porsche… from 4 feet up! Major impacts, with minor scratches and zero real concerns and years later without incident on my Bold 9000 and even the Bold 9700 has taken some major 3+ feet up to concrete without any problems. Sure beats having a solid glass faced device like the iPhone which is heavily prone to cracking and smashing. Blackberries are very indestructible.\
#8. Blackberries Use Standard Connectors
In a pinch? In a weird country? Your local electronic hut might not have the connector to charge or USB cable to sync your data in a tight squeeze if you need an iPhone one. Blackberries use standard connectors that have been around for ages and not their own specialized 30 pin thing.
#9. An Iphone Doesn’t Have The Pixels Bold 9700’s Do
Blackberry Bold 9700 devices are 480×360 resolution… Straight outta the box… iPhone devices are 480×320 (yes it’s being nit-picky) but hey, high resolution graphics are the in thing, right?
#10. Blackberries Are Military Grade
Military Grade encryption and are used by the CIA, FBI, Whitehouse, Congress, Department of Defense, Navy, Army and anyone else who needs something they can count on in an emergency… Can you expect that from an iPhone? Nope!
** Update ** 12/29/2009 – This actually stirred a lot more debate than I thought it would and there’s definitely alot more reasons to like Blackberry Bold 9700 (and similar) devices than I would have expected…
Things like Data Compression! Blackberry data is always less than iPhone use… Things like multi-tasking, apparently iPhones don’t do that very well. That’s ok, neither did the original apples! haha… No Jailbreaking, just call AT&T or Rogers and have them unlock your Blackberry! No warranties voided by doing so!
True bluetooth support! (Thanks GMedia!) actual A2DP support. Built in voice dialing, external speakers on the iPhone are too quiet, Blackberries can sync with iTunes… AND every other music application out there! <GRIN>.
One other note, this post wasn’t designed to be an iPhone hater although there was a time when I could have easily called myself that… The purpose of the post was to simply point out to all the iPhone lovers that there are at least 10 things a Blackberry can do than an iPhone can’t. That’s kinda cool. In the end, if I were a hollywood socialite.. I’d probably have an iPhone for parties, and a Blackberry for evening email work… But alas, even hollywood actors like Paris Hilton use Blackberry Bold’s.
Actually, did you know there’s an entire website dedicated to celebrity blackberry sightings? Goodness I had no idea! Cool!!!

Funny how the years have passed when Blackberry devices didn’t have home screens with pretty graphics on them… They were just a pile of icons to navigate and a jog wheel on the left to find them with… I miss that some days because it really was convenient.
If you miss those days too, you might wanna give this new feature from Handango a try! Click on the image to the right and experience the 18 icon tool which lets you have no home screen and just a pile of icons.
Try it out! Download 18 Icon for Bold 9700 Today!

The Bold 9000 vs Bold 9700 – Indepth Review
Written by admin on December 20, 2009 – 6:15 pm -This review is going to be a work in progress… Especially since it’s Christmas and there won’t be much time to do a complete work, but it’s very much needed on the web… A comprehensive overview of the differences and what you should know…
Size Comparison…
The Bold 9000 is definitely a much bigger unit with a much larger screen physically. The resolution on the Bold 9700 is slightly larger (480×360 pixels) versus the Bold 9000’s (480×320 pixels). Even thought the Bold 9000 is slightly lower in resolution (screen pixels) it’s actually physically bigger making it easier to read and navigate at a glance or for those with glasses.
But the Bold 9000’s larger size also means a larger keyboard making it easier for those with larger thumbs to type on…
Battery Life…
It’s no secret that the biggest innovation of the Bold 9700 was practically DOUBLE the battery life. When I retired the Bold 9000, I was getting a dead battery at 4pm after a heavy 8am to 4pm usage. That meant charging it up when I got home from work if I expected to use it in the evening while out with the family for any reason… Not good! The Bold 9700 started out acting much the same as the Bold 9000 in the first few days of use but on day 3 or 4, it started to last well past the usual… I usually go to bed on heavy usage days with 2/3rds of the battery still left.
Operating System…
The Bold 9000 runs on the original OS 4.7 (although some are actually running 5.0 on it with little troubles), if you want supported OS 5.0 the only option is the Bold 9700 at the moment as RIM has not released 5.0 officially for the Bold 9000. What’s the difference? There’s some areas of 5.0 that have been improved and obviously battery life is part of that too. The look and feel is a bit slicker and nicer and the browser seems to be faster and crash a lot less. The threaded SMS (Text message conversations grouped by contact) makes communication easier too. Beyond that I don’t think there’s any major differences as – at this point in time – most software titles out there seem to work well on both.
Don’t believe what you read, they both run the same processor and so quite a bit of the guts are no different. Any speed differences are operating system and software related and NOT hardware related at all.
Camera Resolution…
The camera on the Bold 9700 is 3.2 Megapixels and comparable to the iPhone camera where as the Bold 9000’s is only a 2 megapixel. The camera on the Bold 9700 also has some fancy focus abilities making it able to take a nicer picture… However the CCD (Image Sensor) isn’t much improved so the overall quality in low lighting is still pretty bad and pixelated and no different than any other camera phone and neither phone’s camera can take a descent picture at high speed. Trying to take a good quality pic of your fast moving 2 year old is still not an option.
Navigation…
The old debate of the trackpad vs the track ball… I’m sure it’ll be going on for years to come… But there’s reason to be in either camp. Yes the ball is probably a bit easier for gaming and a pinch more accurate and easy to use, but… so easily prone to getting mucked up! A heavy user will find themselves cleaning it frequently and having all kinds of ball issues.. IF you ever have ball issues, you’ll quickly realize how useless the device is without it!
Summary…
As I said, I’ll be updating this with more info and will remove those mentions when it’s complete, but overall the Bold 9700 is a better phone with more features and futureproof for support from RIM and software developers as most developers move to more OS 5.0 Software. But I too miss blogging and typing and even reading articles on the slightly larger screen.
But working with a Bold 9000 at this stage means sacrificing a better camera, longer battery life, dirty trackballs and older OS 4.7… The choice is yours.

Texas Hold’em King for Bold 9000 and Bold 9700
Written by SyncMaster on December 17, 2009 – 11:56 am -We haven’t gotten into games much on this site, but there are some games that – when you have a few minutes to spare – can really add life and enjoyment to your day to day boringness.
Texas Hold’em King 3 is the latest version of a series of mobile poker games created by Magmic Games. They instantly connect you with a community of over 100,000 players that you can play against. They claim to have the very best graphics of any blackberry poker game out there… For only $5 bucks, you really can’t argue the price at all.
Basicly, you’re buying a license to own this game for the life of your blackberry, and potentially other blackberries too! Huh? Well, let me explain… If you buy Texas Holdem King from Bplay.com, you can log into your account and re-download it again – even a year later for free.
But wait, there’s more!
When you buy software from Bplay, your not just buying the Bold 9000 or Bold 9700 version only! If you buy a Bold 9700 down the road, but you bought it for the 9000… You can just log into Bplay and re-download the file for 9700’s instead. Cool huh?
Texas Hold’em is a game of skill and deception. It’s one of the most popular games online and in casinos. Check it out… Pretty cool!

A. Most likely because it wasn’t designed for OS 5.0.
B. Because it was designed for a different device…
C. Because it didn’t install correctly.
D. Because you haven’t rebooted yet…
