Blackberry Bold 9700 Manual/Book

Written by sonic on June 22, 2010 – 6:03 pm -

Have you been frustrated by the manual that comes with the Blackberry Bold 9700? I know I was! It’s quite surprising that so many features get unlocked by the patient and experienced user, and so many users who haven’t had a Blackberry are left in the dust!

There’s plenty of good features to the Blackberry Bold 9700 that you’d only find by buying a good book. Here’s one I recommend
It covers some topics you can’t even find on the web.

You might even call it the missing manual to the Blackberry Bold 9700. It says it’s for beginners in some sections but even an advanced user will find it quite advanced. It covers those using Mac & PC.. OSX issues and Windows…

I recommend buying books from Amazon over any other place because they ship fast, guarantee tracking and have a great feedback and return system. But I bet you don’t need to know that!

Oh… and to give you in the inside juice… This book Coming Soon is really the cats meow… The price is fair, the material will be super comprehensive covering all modern Bold’s.

UberTwitter for Blackberry Bold 9700 and 9000 Devices

Written by admin on April 6, 2010 – 1:08 pm -

ubertwitterI know, it’s been a while since I posted a ton of material on the site here. This was one of those things where, you’d feel guilty if you didn’t tell fellow Bold 9700 and Bold 9000 users about.

See, when I first got my blackberry the only Blackberry Bold Twitter client program or application available was from Orangatame software and it was called “Open Beak” now, i can’t complain about free software too much, but honestly I think…

…having this software for so long actually HURT My opinion of Blackberry Phones!!!

Why? Because it’s so basic, so ugly and so simple that the very features of Twitter that make it an exciting platform just aren’t there. You don’t get the social interactivity feel of actually chatting or interacting with people… You read other people’s stuff, you read your own stuff… and you post stuff.. whoo hoo? It’s like a blog!

Twitter’s not a blog!??!!!

Well, it’s microblogging, but with the @replies and such its’ alot more than a blog, it’s a social network with active communication going on! But not with Openbeak.

This week, a few minutes before bed, I downloaded UberTwitter and my life changed. Yes in 48 hours my life became a different life. Twitter became people I could talk to, i found a report spam button for all those idiots who keep DM ing me stuff, you know who you are… I mean goodness! I have over 325 DM’s sitting in the inbox, do you REALLY think i’m going to read them? Spammers!

Ubertwitter’s allowed me to see threads of conversations, interact and read other conversations, and actually find MORE tweets fitting on my screen (it seems) then my desktop computer, and easier to read!

If you haven’t tried it your doing yourself a major dis-service, it may in fact actually change your life and grow your business just by installing it. Don’t blame me if you loose hours of precious family time and even have a divorce over how addictive this thing is to use.

iPad and Blackberry Bold 9700 Play nice?

Written by sonic on April 6, 2010 – 12:31 pm -

ipad-launch

AP - Photo / Paul Sakuma

When the pictures like the one here started showing up after the iPad launch, i thought man.. I gotta blog about this! I mean but the silly thing is, people just don’t realize how crippled a device this really is. You see these expressions of sheer joy… Like a warrior of the old days finally nailing a deer with a hunting bow, modern man finds joy in forking over their money they feed their families with for toys.

This device is proven incapable of multi-tasking. I mean reading email, checking the web, while glancing at your twitter.. Or even listening to a song while working… All things a Sub $299 netbook can do…

My most recent purchase was a EeePC T91, and it’s truly something special to behold… But I won’t get into the joys of either… How does a Bold 9700 fit in with all this wizardry and devicery?

Well, let me say this much… With a Bold 9700 in your pocket whether you like the proprietary and limited hardware of the iPad or not, you can easily use cradlepoint to tether your blackberry to your iPad and get 3G on the non-3G model, and no doubt without an extra bill you have to pay each month.

So, you don’t like the operating system of the large iPad device but still like the features and functions, some kids have figured out how to hack OSX onto the iPad… Well, not REALLY… But still.. You can easily VPN using the right app into any machine… another mac, another Windows 7 machine and gain all those features wirelessly, even if your on the beach… So theoretically you could run anything you wanted remotely using that strategy.

But, the nice thing about a netbook vs an iPad is that you can have flash, you can run any old program you want and you can carry as many batteries as you want with you. You have a webcam for chatting and conferencing, you can get multi-touch and GPS and 3G internet.

The Bold 9700 won’t sync all it’s data with an iPad, but it would with a netbook of course… It remains to be seen and I truly believe that we’re going to find a generation that goes thru the fad of thinking these are incredibly cool and then finding they’re not using them as often as they thought they would….

I give the device 1 year, before you’ll see them going on craigslist for $200 and under.

Blackberry Browser Unable To Click On Any Link

Written by admin on March 24, 2010 – 3:31 pm -

Blackberry Bold 9700 Experience:

For a while it became quite annoying… Every time I opened up my blackberry web browser, if i wanted to click on anything i’d have to click the blackberry button, open link, and then I’d be able to open things… And I couldn’t click on search buttons, I couldn’t click on “go” buttons or any form buttons on web pages.

Then, I did some quick googling around and someone mentioned that they’d had theirs go away by simply pulling the battery out, waiting a few mins and then trying again and it cleared up. Well, I didn’t wanna try that at frist because these things take like 5 minutes to boot sometimes…

One day while I was at work I tried it, and boom, everything works fine again.

This really is the only serious glitch I’ve noticed in the Bold 9700 since buying it, although i’m sure there’s lots of quirks others have seen that I haven’t.

It does get slow every once in a while and need a restart, but that’s not common. Overall it’s one of the better phones i’ve ever owned. I have to say though that every once in an while when I see my old blackberry 9000 sitting in my night stand I think about going back. Only for that keyboard!

Emotions and Your Cell Phone Purchase

Written by admin on January 15, 2010 – 2:55 pm -

It seems that a lot of people fight over the decision between whether to call themselves a blackberry user or an iPhone user. The camps are very entrenched like two different religious views.

When I wrote the top 10 things a Blackberry 9700 can do that an iPhone couldn’t, I wasn’t trying to knock the iPhone. I think the iPhone is a nicely designed gadget. However, I find it tough adding something like that to my daily life.

Something that’s screen smashes out when you drop it… Something that has no feeling when you type on it…

But phones are very much an emotional purchase unless your in business and require your phone for work. Your influenced by your friends, the media, and all kinds of other external and internal motivations. Let me say that the screen on a Bold 9700 and the look & feel has now started to really reflect those of the iPhone, with the scrolling time setting in the Alarm and Calendar… The sleek touch of the track pad…

I had the privileged this last couple weeks of chatting with these underground blackberry theme creators and boy… There are now things a Bold 9700/Tour can do that really make it’s interface look BETTER than an iPhone and not just looks… but practicality.. Some guy at methberry named Chad making themes that really revolutionize what a Blackberry can do.. I’m sure the functionality was there all along, but they’re unlocking that…

Like transparency.. I mean I can actually see what time it is while I set my alarm, how practical and yet sweet looking is that? I think that theme is called Eminence.

And as soon as they give me the word, i’ll be letting everyone know about these innovations and more…

Bejeweled for the Bold 9700

Written by sonic on January 11, 2010 – 11:11 pm -

popEasily argued as one of the best games to play with a trackpad.. Bejeweled gives some kind of strange and sickly twisted rush when casually flicking the track pad from right to left as you complete a series of 3 shapes. Not only does it flow so nice and sweetly, but it’s a great way to pass the time and won’t leave you frustrated and upset at yourself due to the lack of control that a non-trackball device can sometimes leave you.

I genuinely believe that Bejeweled may very well be the best Bold 9700 game on the market at the moment. It’s one of the few worth paying for. The arcade modes, the advanced levels and the graphics even look better on the Bold 9700 version than on the iPhone version. (iPhone version pictured to the right..).

Download Bejeweled for the Bold 9700 Today!

They have the OTA option there too via SMS to most carriers.

Share Blackberry Internet With Your Laptop – 50% Off

Written by admin on January 8, 2010 – 4:07 pm -

blackberry-short-usb-cable-and-laptopProbably one of the most useful pieces of software available for the Blackberry Smartphone today is the Tetherberry software… Which this week got re-branded to just “tether” due to it’s arrival in the Blackberry App World store.

There’s all kinds of controversy over this app, because apps similar to it aren’t allowed in the Apple store and I imagine the Droid app store has the same song and dance… Whatever the case may be, it’s on at 50% off from now until January 10th, 2010. You really should take advantage of this… Because $24.98 for a $50 program is a good deal – and it was even too rich for my blood until they announced this…

What’s is “tethering” anyway?

Tethering is where you connect your Blackberry via USB to your laptop and use it’s internet connection. If you get an unlimited internet plan from your cell phone provider – this is essentially free internet wherever there’s a signal. If your provider gives you 1GB per month or similar (..and your probably finding your not using it all anyway) you can tap into that for quick email checks and save paying Starbucks any cash.

This works with any provider.. but some require a different config than others, but this software very much simplifies the whole process. This entire process can work easily with a mac or a PC, with windows 7, windows 98, windows 2000, even a server your troubleshooting somewhere that needs a patch or an update… Just brilliant! It’s your swiss army knife, and $25 could easily save your bacon one day even if you don’t need it today…

Download Blackberry Internet Sharing “tetherberry” today.

ATT & TMobile Go Head To Head on Amazon

Written by sonic on January 8, 2010 – 3:36 pm -

What surprises me that ATT & Tmobile are both offering the phone at the current moment for the same price, $49.99. What’s different is that AT&T seem to offer their services at a minimum of $45.00 per month – and Tmobile is offering theirs at $39 unlimited… Tmobile seems to have a simpler easier to understand packages and plans and AT&T is a challenge to read up on to know what your getting with all their provisos and extras.

Keep your eye out on these though, I noticed before the holidays, AT&T was offering theirs up for a buck with signup… but truthfully, what good is a buck of the dataplan sucks?

The Blackberry Presenter – Powerpoint Presentations

Written by SyncMaster on January 6, 2010 – 1:11 pm -

On Wednesday, January 6th 2010 – RIM released a new device that really changes2010-01-04_144509_610x345 the name of the game! A Wireless presentation device allowing you to do power point presentations with no laptop.

Given the native resolution of a Blackberry Bold 9000 or Bold 9700, this method of presenting would be best for text Power Points and non high resolution, non technical presentations only, but regardless it’s really cool. Makes you wonder if it would also work to play DIVX movies from your blackberry to  your TV Set.

Kind of disappointed this device didn’t come with HDMI though, that would make it truly a game changer and something totally useful in a mountain of situations.

Freeze mode is really neat. You can actually pause the powerpoint on the screen while browsing the presentation on your smartphone so you can digg thru and find what’s coming next then flow back all while the audience still sees the screen you were last on. Pretty awesome!

10 Meters of walk around space while still controlling the presentation, Impressive. I’m sure more news will surface and more strategy around  how it works as it slowly gets mentioned around the web.

Technical Details:

Video Formats:
NTSC/PAL

Power Connection:
USB

Video Formats:
VGA, S-VIDEO

Languages Supported:
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish

Display Resolutions:
640×480, 800×600, 1024×768

Bluetooth:
Version 2.o + EDR, Class 1.5

They might want to  add native Indian languages, as Blackberry devices are beginning to get a huge following in that country too.

What can a Blackberry Bold 9700 do that iPhones can’t?

Written by admin on December 28, 2009 – 1:51 pm -

I know people ask this all the time, and while most people don’t really know the answer, or think it’s a cheesy question ASSUMING that iPhones can do EVERYTHING a Blackberry can do (and they’re wrong…) Please, stand by for the ULTIMATE…

10 Things iPhones Can’t Do, But Blackberries CAN!

#1. BRIGHT Flash light using the Camera’s flash left on…

No iPhone users, apps that turn your entire screen white cannot replace a 13 foot light that’s even powerful enough to fix your car in the pitch-black dark! Yes, our flashlight apps just leave the camera flash on indefinitely, but the blackberry camera light is so bright, it could cause eyeball damage and can lead people to safety… It sounds cheesy, but it really does impress people to have a light that bright that doubles as your phone.

#2. Color changing LED lights…

Yes, there’s one little LED light on the phone that usually reminds us our battery is low, or gives us the heart pumping jitters that there’s a new E-mail (Oh, joy!), but it’s actually capable of 7+ different shades of color! This little handy app can cause the LED to go various shades and no… it’s not slightly red green or blue, it’s the full color! Pretty cool that you can control it to a sexy blue color when your girlfriend calls or an annoying red alert when your boss calls.

#3. A Real Keyboard!

Sheah, who cares right? You see those nerds touch typing at high speeds and you see their bubbly keyboard letters bouncing up as they type and wanna join the crowd? Hold up there partner! iPhone users have tested to find an average of 33 WPM (words per minute) typing speeds on their phones. Blackberry phones average 45 to 60 WPM without LOOKING!! Being a physical keyboard with real buttons a Blackberry typist can look around, and even watch TV while pounding out their message… But the human brain just can’t do that on a piece of glass!

#4. Bold 9700s battery lasts longer then an iPhone…

Yes… If you’ve read reports about the new iPhone 3.1 battery problems, you know there’s something up when a Bold 9700 can play music for 39  hours straight and an iPhone… Just can’t! Isn’t this thing made by the same folks who make the iPod? LOL… 39 hours not just playing music, but with Wifi ON, Radio ON, taking emails, calls and SMS for 39 hours!

#5. Removable Memory

Yes, you may never need to if you buy a 32GB card, but Walmart and other stores photo departments don’t yet have iPhone plug jacks on the front of their machines. Want prints? Better have removable media… Now that’s convenient!

#6. Removable Battery

Ok, so you really wanna go mega hours without having to re-charge? How about that trip thru the amazon where you’d still like to use your phone for GPS!? Buy 2 batteries… Can’t do that with an iPhone.. Yes – you can get external battery things that dangle from the bottom, but what fun is that? And how much fun is it when the internal one dies? Don’t imagine it’s fun!

#7. Drop the debate.. Drop the two phones!

Yes, I’ve dropped my blackberry on the concrete floor in my garage while working on the Porsche… from 4 feet up! Major impacts, with minor scratches and zero real concerns and years later without incident on my Bold 9000 and even the Bold 9700 has taken some major 3+ feet up to concrete without any problems. Sure beats having a solid glass faced device like the iPhone which is heavily prone to cracking and smashing. Blackberries are very indestructible.\

#8. Blackberries Use Standard Connectors

In a pinch? In a weird country? Your local electronic hut might not have the connector to charge or USB cable to sync your data in a tight squeeze if you need an iPhone one. Blackberries use standard connectors that have been around for ages and not their own specialized 30 pin thing.

#9. An Iphone Doesn’t Have The Pixels Bold 9700’s Do

Blackberry Bold 9700 devices are 480×360 resolution… Straight outta the box… iPhone devices are 480×320 (yes it’s being nit-picky) but hey, high resolution graphics are the in thing, right?

#10. Blackberries Are Military Grade

Military Grade encryption and are used by the CIA, FBI, Whitehouse, Congress, Department of Defense, Navy, Army and anyone else who needs something they can count on in an emergency… Can you expect that from an iPhone? Nope!

** Update ** 12/29/2009 – This actually stirred a lot more debate than I thought it would and there’s definitely alot more reasons to like Blackberry Bold 9700 (and similar) devices than I would have expected…

Things like Data Compression! Blackberry data is always less than iPhone use… Things like multi-tasking, apparently iPhones don’t do that very well. That’s ok, neither did the original apples! haha… No Jailbreaking, just call AT&T or Rogers and have them unlock your Blackberry! No warranties voided by doing so!

True bluetooth support! (Thanks GMedia!) actual A2DP support. Built in voice dialing, external speakers on the iPhone are too quiet, Blackberries can sync with iTunes… AND every other music application out there! <GRIN>.

One other note, this post wasn’t designed to be an iPhone hater although there was a time when I could have easily called myself that… The purpose of the post was to simply point out to all the iPhone lovers that there are at least 10 things a Blackberry can do than an iPhone can’t. That’s kinda cool. In the end, if I were a hollywood socialite.. I’d probably have an iPhone for parties, and a Blackberry for evening email work… But alas, even hollywood actors like Paris Hilton use Blackberry Bold’s.

Actually, did you know there’s an entire website dedicated to celebrity blackberry sightings? Goodness I had no idea! Cool!!!
